On a bike ride in Seattle, where Larry is performing in a play, he imagines abandoning the theater to work as a railroad laborer. We hear the voices of Joe Franks across America. Larry becomes increasingly alienated from his female lead in the play. An old man recites a Psalm and discusses his faith. Larry visits a church and Debi speaks of her loneliness.
